RESPECT: Guerrilla Girls

“Art should look like the rest of our culture. Unless all the voices of our culture are in the history of art, it’s not really history of art. It’s history of power.”

Feminist art collective Guerrilla Girls are taking back the hallowed halls of galleries everywhere.

The longstanding activist group was created in 1985 to create a more gender equal art scene and have been hard at the cause ever since. The statistics comparing the amount of male artists showing in major museums versus the amount of female artists are undeniable. Despite GG’s tireless efforts female artists are still not equally represented in these institutions. They stopped by the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about gender equality in the art industry and how it continues to be almost just as unfair as it was in the past.
